Journey to the 70th Anniversary of “It’s a Wonderful Life” Commemorative Calendar (2016)
This keepsake calendar follows the production of “It’s a Wonderful Life” from the day Frank Capra acquired the rights to the original story, The Greatest Gift, through the film’s premieres at The Globe Theatre in New York City and The Pantages Theatre in Hollywood. Excerpts from original call sheets reflect the dates that many memorable scenes were filmed. “Doodles” by Jack Okey, the Art Director, reproduced from his original call sheets, can be found throughout the calendar.
Photographs from the personal collections of Karolyn Grimes, Carol Coombs, and Jimmy Hawkins – “Zuzu, Janie and Tommy Bailey” – together with rare photographs of scenes that never made it into the film from the private collection of Richard Goodson, provide a behind-the-scenes look at the making of the film. Quotations from interviews conducted in the 1990s by Jimmy Hawkins, with members of the cast and crew, many of which are featured in the “It’s a Wonderful Life Memory” section, provide personal insights into the “The Most Inspiring Film of All Time” (American Film Institute).
